Haufiku steps down

Founding Chairperson of the Namibia Medical Society (NMS), Dr Bernard Haufiku has officially stepped down as the Chairperson of the Society.

Dr Haufiku's term of office came to an end at the Annual General (AGM) that was held on Saturday 01st December 2012 in Windhoek and he indicated that he will not be available for re-election.

Dr Haufiku has been at the helm of the Society since it's inauguration in 2009 and has seen the society grow from strength to strength under his leadership.

In his Chairman's report, Dr Haufiku highlighted the 2 congresses, the flood relief operation, the various Continuous Medical Education (CME) activities that were organized as some of the successes that were achieved during his tenure.

Acknowledging Dr Haufiku's contribution to NMS, NMS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr Michael Jario noted that NMS is where it is today because of the input and sacrifices of the founding Chairperson. Dr Jario presented Dr Haufiku with a gift from NMS as token of appreciation to the immense contribution that he has made to the Society.

The AGM unanimously voted for a motion to accord Dr Haufiku with Honourary Member status.
